- Volunteer at Scaffold -

Whilst we are always keen for volunteers to join our team as advocates, by attending one of our trainings, there are also many other ways you can help Scaffold Advocacy that are just as essential. Below are some of the roles we are seeking volunteers for. It is possible to take on tasks from across several roles if you wish and have capacity, or perhaps you can see a need we haven’t thought of yet!

If you think you could help with the admin of keeping Scaffold Advocacy ticking, please email us at ScaffoldAdvocacy@gmail.com

Volunteer roles we are seeking to fill:

Events and Outreach Manager:
- Organising venue bookings and logistics for training sessions.
- Promoting training sessions to potential advocates. This may involve: flyering, letter writing, hosting a stall at events like Rad Pride etc.

Social Media Manager:
- Promote upcoming trainings on social media.
- Create posts with materials from our resources and researchers that may be helpful to people engaging with PIP.
- Respond to messages and comments, referring people to our website, resources, trainings, or advocate coordinator where appropriate.

Advocate Coordinator:
- Contact training attendees to gather feedback on the session and invite them to become advocates on our team.
- Follow up with advocates who joined the team but have not taken any cases with us, to see what we can do to empower them to take on cases (e.g more training in a specific aspect, having a more experienced advocate review their work, or running role-play sessions to practice assessments)

Resource Creators:
Work on new resources and making existing resources available to more people. For example:
- Creating a version of the handbook aimed at claimants
- Creating versions of current resources in Easy Read, Screen-reader friendly, or additional languages
- Developing new resources you feel would help advocates or PIP claimants

This role could also include uploading resources to our buymeacoffee store, and updating our website to better direct people to the resources they need.

Researchers:
- Responding to advocate questions on our WhatsApp and Discord, using research and case studies from tribunal decisions where appropriate.
- Supporting the resource team, fact checking and researching areas of interest.
- Potentially, proactively collecting and presenting information to the team. Recent examples include DWP use of AI; success rates of PIP applications at each stage; and precedents from upper tribunal for handling Autism as a cognitive impairment.
